Sculpture by the Sea

More than 100 sculptures from Australia and abroad transform the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk into a temporary sculpture park Now in its 20th year, Sculpture by the Sea is one of Sydney’s key annual arts events, drawing more than 500,000 to the 2km coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama to enjoy site-specific sculptures by top artists and emerging talents from Australia and abroad.

The 2016 Sculpture by the Sea line-up has some local art stars – Sean Cordeiro & Claire Healy, Ken Unsworth, Michael Snape, and the late (and legendary) Inge King – and plenty of regulars. But the most captivating works can come from the least-known artists. All it takes is a great idea.

The winner of this year’s $60,000 acquisitive prize, sponsored by Aqualand, is Johannes Pannekoek for his work ‘Change Ahead’. This means the work will be essentially gifted by Aqualand to North Sydney Council, to be installed permanently outdoors.

As with last year, there’s a Grounds by the Sea pop-up at Marks Park with coffee and food to sustain you on your art adventure.
